MidLife Crisis

The desire to relive youth

Comes on like a contagion

A midlife crisis is an apt word

To describe the malady

Many go there

But some never return

A clock can be biological

Ticking loud enough

To cause ears to bleed

And heads to explode

And minds to claw

At the walls of time

Like a trapped animal

Remembering suddenly

Things never done

Places never been

Hearts never explored

Lands never conquered

Dreams never realised

Emotions never felt

Repression never lifted

Oceans never explored

Projects never finished

The clock can be cerebral

A desire or need to ram

And jam in, as much as possible

Like filling a suitcase to bursting

So it can’t be closed

Easily

Red sports car

Leather jacket

Guitar

A younger model

A need to re-affirm

Masculintiy

Femininity

Desirability

Or all three

And a hope to escape

The existance one finds themselves

Embroiled in.

The midlife crisis is actually

Three quarters of the way into life

Creating an air of desperation

Suffocation

Drowning

Falling

A need to fall

Sweet surrender

To practice for that other surrender

Of death

But hopefully

Once the crisis is over

You come away – unscathed

Without leaving too many casualties

In your wake

And it’s back to reality

Normality need not be

Stale soup and slippers

Instead, it can be sanity

And staid need not be stagnant

And dreams need not be broken

And summer can burst through

The illusion of spring.

Penalties

Penalties are…

Humiliation

For everyone involved

Penalties are…

The homocides

That never get solved

Penalties are…

The liars

That hide their stash

When everyone else

Is putting in the cash

Penalties are…

The shirker

Who gets in late

Penalties get lucky

And cannot wait

Penalties are…

Random

On a game board rolled

Penalties are easy way

Yet come up

Fools gold

Penalties are…

Unrequited Love

Dreams Unrealized

Hard Work and Skill

Count for nothing

When there are penalties.

Middle Of The Road

Either hot or cold

Up or down

No centre ground

No temperate clime

Sweet or Sour

Here or There

Passion or placid

Love or not

No grey area

No neutral zone

Fast or slow

No sideline

No sitting

On the fence

Good or bad

Rain or shine

No point being

Lukewarm

Or tepid

Or mediocre

Or middle of the road

Because if you’re in the

Middle of the road…

You get hit by cars.

Autograph Surprise For The Star Trek Lady

I was feeling a bit down…

(Oh hang on a minute, I’ve just done a post that began that way. No, this is different. Honestly. This isn’t a rehash. I’ll start again. Bear with me please. Ahem…)

I was feeling a bit down and opened up a Star Trek Next Generation Novel, which I bought for a couple of pounds from a local gaming/comic book store.

And got a lovely surprise!

Marina Sertis’ autograph!

She’s one of my favourite actresses on that sci fi series. She plays the character Deanna Troi.

The day just got better!

Who needs beer gardens?

And, as if I’d ever go to a Star Trek convention?

Well, you never know. I am in my autumn years. ( Well maybe late summer. Very late).

One of the sales guys hasn’t seen me for a year because of lockdown, and didn’t recognise me for about 30 minutes. Finally, after studying me for a while, and not getting who I was because of the winter coat, hat, mask and a year of lockdown, clocked the eight Star Trek Next Generation novels, piled up high in my arms.

When the penny dropped, he said in a loud and impassioned voice, ‘Oh, I know who you are now, you’re the Star Trek Lady!’

Lovely man.

It’s a title I joyfully accept.

I’m glad I cheered you up Sue. I am a counsellor after all.

Tomato Juice Garden

Lockdown has eased.

There’s a spring

Not just in the air

But in everybody’s step

Because now

We can all go to beer gardens.

It takes so little to make the human being

Happy and content.

If only beer gardens were always the answer

Llike when you give a dog a treat

And they feel they have found

The ultimate happiness.

Let’s flock to beer gardens the nation over

Just because we can.

I’ve avoided them like the plague.

Like the plague of recent times

I’ll take my poison on my own terms

Don’t want to be forced to drink

Just so I can be with people I care about

Then again

I suppose you could always get a tomato juice.

Sow Discontent

Governments

And People

Sow Seeds Of Discontent

The opposite of Discontent

Is Gratefulness

Oh yes, let’s start becoming ungrateful and want something else….

A completely new and different life…

That was never had before

And not within our grasp

It promises

A present and a future

That was better than

What we had before

We Buy into the Discontent

It makes a person

Or a Nation

Or a Country

Want to start wars

Or destroy marriages

Or themselves

Countries that were once happy

Now unhappy

Marriages that were happy

Now unhappy

Nations that were happy

Now unhappy

And so on,

Nation Will Rise against Nation

And Kingdom Against Kingdom

If you Sow Seeds of Discontent

War Begins.

When The World Goes Mad

When The World Goes Mad

We’ll Still Be Sane

And Still Be The Same

Holding Onto What We Knew

In The Old Days

When Life Was Simple

And Plans Were Few

And Pleasures…Were You.

When The World Goes Mad

It’ll Just Be Me And You

Friend

Lover

Other

Husband

Wife

Pet

It’ll Just Be Me And You

Against The World

We’ll See It Through

When The World Goes Mad

We’ll See It Through

In the Armegeddon

Of Our Emotions

And In The Wilderness

Of Our Wildest Dreams

There Is An Oasis

We Open Our Eyes

And Think…

Oh No, Not Another Dawn!

When We Awake

We Get

The Shock Of Our Life

There’s More To This

There Always Is

It’s About Motivation

And Drive

And Love

Always

Always About Love

That Elusive

And Powerful Force.

We’ll See It Through

Aim to Forgive

(Very Difficult, but worth it)

Hate Less

(Difficult)

Love More

(Hard Work, it has to be said)

But nothing worth having comes easy.
