Quick Review – The Great Wall

I went to see The Great Wall movie last week. I have concentration problems when it comes to watching movies but this kept me riveted. This has been described as an historical  fantasy  but also a monster movie, with elements of (although it doesn’t compare) The Two Towers and Jet Li movies and even Alien in some respects. The relationship between William (Matt Damon) and Tovar (Pedro Pascal) is legendary, palpable. There is great chemistry between them. It feels like a pilot to a series. I would love to see more of these two characters. The human aspect of the story is better than the monster aspect, which I think have some issues regarding plausibility. If you’re military minded, but open to the idea of alternative battle strategies and also enjoy siege situations, I think you might like this. Worth a watch.

The Great Wall directed by Zhang Yimou

Quote Of The Week

‘Animals do not judge you by the way you look, the clothes you wear, how much money you have in the bank, or what your sexuality, colour or creed is. If you are kind to them, they are kind to you.’
