The Sea

We know what it does

How it does it

Where it goes

Why it comes

What it’s going to do next

Yet are still mesmerised

By the waves

Lapping on the shore

And the tides going in and out

And the diamonds on the blue

When the sun is shining

And the fury of a storm

Foaming at the corners of its mouth.

A Safe Haven

A Safe Haven

In the mind

For some

Is a tiny place

A box room

A seven by twelve foot prison cell

No toilet

No light

Infested with cockroaches

But in others

A Safe Haven

Is a beautifully decorated mansion

With fragrant gardens

A peaceful place

A beautiful sunset

A sprawling landscape

Rolling hills

A county

A country

A continent

For some, sanctuary is small

With no room to breathe

Or to turn around

What does it take?

To extent or expand one’s safe haven?

A serene cove

In a quiet harbour

Or a desert

A tundra

How abundant or sparse

Are our safe havens?

If you’re never had a safe haven before

There’s always hope for one

To be written into your world

Painted into your soul

It doesn’t have to be

Just for the few

Self destructive

Self sabotaging minds

Will see their safe havens

Boarded up

And a sign that says

‘Dangerous, derelict building.’

‘Keep Out!’

Sometimes you have to

Open it back up

And renovate

Life is hard enough

Without a safe haven

To call your own

And it costs nothing

In running fees

It’s yours

And yours only

And no-one else’s

A priceless place

A private place

Of time and space

Your sweet, secure

Safe Haven

Penalties

Penalties are…

Humiliation

For everyone involved

Penalties are…

The homocides

That never get solved

Penalties are…

The liars

That hide their stash

When everyone else

Is putting in the cash

Penalties are…

The shirker

Who gets in late

Penalties get lucky

And cannot wait

Penalties are…

Random

On a game board rolled

Penalties are easy way

Yet come up

Fools gold

Penalties are…

Unrequited Love

Dreams Unrealized

Hard Work and Skill

Count for nothing

When there are penalties.

Be Watchful

Be watchful of wolf

In sheep garments

And wary of sheep

In wolf attire

Discern motivation

What do people want from you?

Because they will want something.

Money?

Sex?

Power?

Other?

You’re not so much liked

As ‘loved’

Or ‘desired’

Or ‘wanted’

For their pleasure

For their id

For their ‘Dupers Delight’

What can you do for them?

What are they lacking?

What gap can you fill?

Or are you maybe

Simply stalked

And hunted for your fur

Sow Discontent

Governments

And People

Sow Seeds Of Discontent

The opposite of Discontent

Is Gratefulness

Oh yes, let’s start becoming ungrateful and want something else….

A completely new and different life…

That was never had before

And not within our grasp

It promises

A present and a future

That was better than

What we had before

We Buy into the Discontent

It makes a person

Or a Nation

Or a Country

Want to start wars

Or destroy marriages

Or themselves

Countries that were once happy

Now unhappy

Marriages that were happy

Now unhappy

Nations that were happy

Now unhappy

And so on,

Nation Will Rise against Nation

And Kingdom Against Kingdom

If you Sow Seeds of Discontent

War Begins.

Machinery

Mechanical bits and bobs turning

But the machine is slowly winding down

Until it stops

And then it will just

Sit in the warehouse

(Like the Ark Of The Covenant

In Indiana Jones)

Just sitting there

Gathering dust

Cobwebs will form

Spiders will make homes

In the little alcoves

Between the smallest cogs

The machine is full of nests

Of other lives

But not its own

A machine doesn’t think

Or have a mind

It becomes a host

To little beating hearts

And things that want to live

When The World Goes Mad

When The World Goes Mad

We’ll Still Be Sane

And Still Be The Same

Holding Onto What We Knew

In The Old Days

When Life Was Simple

And Plans Were Few

And Pleasures…Were You.

When The World Goes Mad

It’ll Just Be Me And You

Friend

Lover

Other

Husband

Wife

Pet

It’ll Just Be Me And You

Against The World

We’ll See It Through

When The World Goes Mad

We’ll See It Through

In the Armegeddon

Of Our Emotions

And In The Wilderness

Of Our Wildest Dreams

There Is An Oasis

We Open Our Eyes

And Think…

Oh No, Not Another Dawn!

When We Awake

We Get

The Shock Of Our Life

There’s More To This

There Always Is

It’s About Motivation

And Drive

And Love

Always

Always About Love

That Elusive

And Powerful Force.

We’ll See It Through

Aim to Forgive

(Very Difficult, but worth it)

Hate Less

(Difficult)

Love More

(Hard Work, it has to be said)

But nothing worth having comes easy.
