I loved science fiction as a teenager, which has been described as the last refuge of philosophy. My favorite authors included Robert Heinlein, Spider Robinson, and Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
There is a quote of Vonnegut’s I still like. “Fate is not the hand of God. It is the way the wind blows, and the dust swirls, eons after God has passed by.” I no longer agree w/ that sentiment. God I now recognize is concerned w/ the even the smallest details of my life. But the quote helped me see that God is not responsible for the evil in the world.
My husband is really into Science Fiction. He likes Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Harry Harrison, Larry Niven. I read the Ring World series. I like Vonnegut’s quote too. A lot of science fiction writers don’t believe in God., which is unfortunate. They’re looking in a different direction !
