  1. The connection between a mother and daughter is profound. It is never severed, even by death. A mother may be gone, but she remains in our hearts.

That connection is not merely physical. It is forged by love. Many women have more than one mother, emotionally speaking — sisters, grandmothers, aunts, stepmothers, teachers, mentors, etc.

The relationships with our mother(s) shape us in fundamental ways.

We continually encounter situations that remind us of our mother(s). As we age and mature, we understand ourselves better and, as a consequence, our mother(s).

With age, we have more compassion for the struggles our mother(s) faced, for their limitations, and for our own.

    1. Thank you for this Anna. The relationship is complex and it can result in complicated grief when they pass on, as it has done so with me. You’re absolutley spot on about having more understanding of our mothers, their struggles and their limitations as we grow older, particularly, I think when they pass on. It’s eye opening and insightful and I think contributes to our growth even though it is heartbreaking.
